of play. Serena lost to the 9th seeded Marion Bartoli of France 6-3, 7-6(8-6). Serena made some costly errors and could not keep up with the steady

Serena Williams Gets Tough Wimbledon First Round Match
06.18.2011 LONDON-- Serena Williams next week competes as the 7th seed at Wimbledon at London. Some good news as her sister Venus Williams is on the
other side of the singles draw; meaning the two sisters could only meet in the final round.
Serena's low seed comes as a result that she had only
played one tournament, Wimbledon in the past 52 weeks which resulted in a WTA Tour ranking of 26. Wimbledon seeded Serena 7, not 26 due to her past
grass results and her injury absence.
The bad news is Serena in the first round is to play Aravane Rezai of France, one of the hardest hitters on the WTA
Tour. Rezai has a win over Venus. Serena defeated the 61st ranked Frenchwoman 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 in the semifinals of Syndey
last January in their only prior meeting.
Serena Williams Out Of Eastbourne in Second Round
06.18.2011 EASTBOURNE-- Serena Williams has returned to tennis after being sidelined for almost one year. Serena before this week played her last WTA
Tour match in the final at Wimbledon in 2010. Serena was rusty and was not in the best physical condition as was to be expected, but still Serena
played two good matches and gained valuable matchplay.
In the first round this week at the AEGON International at Eastbourne, England Serena beat
Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 after losing the first five games in the first set. In the second round Serena led the top seeded
Vera Zvonareva of Russia 6-4, 5-4 before losing 3-6, 7-6(7-5), 7-5.
Serena Williams To Compete At Eastbourne Next Week
06.07.2011 EASTBOURNE-- Serena Williams has announced she will make her return from an injury break from the WTA Tour next week as a wildcard entry
at Eastbourne, England
at a grass court tournament. Serena's sister Venus Williams is also playing the Eastbourne tournament. Serena will then compete at Wimbledon
which begins June 20th. It will be interesting to see where Wimbledon seeds Serena as she is the defending champion. Because her 2000 Wimbledon points
are the only tournament on her rankings, Serena has fallen in the rankings the last year from number one to number twenty-five.
